We won’t see Doctor Who until the three-parter next year with David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor having a reunion with dear Donna (Catherine Tate). It looks like we might be getting another installment of the Doctor next year as well in the form of a Christmas special, something we haven’t had since 2017 when we saw Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth (pictured above) for the last time before he regenerated into Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth.

In a conversation with Doctor Who Magazine (via Collider ), showrunner Russell T. Davies said his script for next year’s Christmas special “has been long since signed off.” Davies also said that he’s working on one for “end-of-year 2024” as well, but whether that special will be timed to Christmas is unclear.
What’s also unclear is who will be in the 2023 Doctor Who Christmas special. It seems that it will be separate from the three installments starring Tennant as the Fourteenth, so maybe it will be the first time we’ll see Ncuti Gawa’s Fifteenth, perhaps along with his recently announced companion, played by Millie Gibson?
That’s just pure speculation on my end, though it would be cool to see Gawa in the role in a meaningful way before 2024. If we get a special with just Tennant and Tate, however, I certainly won’t complain. If I had to guess though (and again, this is just a guess!), I bet we see Tennant’s Fourteen regeneration into Gawa’s Fifteen at the end of the three-part special, or possibly the regeneration will occur during the Christmas installment, as Davies has featured Christmas-time regenerations before.
Sadly we have to wait a whole year to find out! The Doctor will return in 2023, but not until the end of the year most likely.
